There used to be a lot of tension and oppression in the media landscape, now there is a reasonable amount of freedom and the industry is growing fast. A lot of Radio and TV stations are coming into the system every day. The internet has helped a lot in the promotion of broadcast media in Ghana. With 4G internet speed now in the system there is a lot of speed and clarity in the search for information generally. What the broadcast media houses have now gone into is promoting their programs online VIA social media and developing soft wares and apps for their media houses which makes them very accessible. Now newspapers have also gone online and are now on our tabloids, by simply getting the software or app of the newspaper you can access whatever is on the papers on your phone or computer. So basically you can say internet is a big game changer in the broadcast world. As the saying goes, “the world is now a global village”, and it’s the internet that has made this possible. Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) was the first ever school established in Africa for the training of journalists. Now you look around and there are a lot of professional journalism schools around. The future is very bright for broadcast journalism in Ghana.
